"Ladies and gentlemen, we're about to touch down at Incheon International Airport." International visitors arriving by plane to South Korea might find this announcement familiar, but how many actually know where Incheon is? Lying slightly west of the capital, Seoul, Incheon is not only home of the country's international airport, but also a major harbour city in Korea.
To be exact, the airport is built on Yeongjong Island, a popular weekend getaway destination for its beaches, hot springs and fish markets. If you're planning a stopover in Incheon, visit the Incheon Landing Operation Memorial Hall, dedicated in memory of the Korean War or admire the sea from the Jayu (Freedom) Park, where a statue of General MacArthur stands. While at Korea’s only official Chinatown in Incheon, sample one of the Korean’s favourite dishes – jajang-myeon (noodles with black bean paste). It'll surely make your Incheon trip "stick" with you.
